Hi friends! I have moved my film updates to this platform. You probably subscribed via social some time back and I just… ignored Substack until I had a reason not to. I’ve been maintaining a mailing list on Google, but it’s time to do something easier to manage. Don’t hesitate to use that unsubscribe button, I get it, my inbox is chaos too.
You’re starting in the middle because hey, that’s where we are. TLDR: I have two award-winning screenplays and a short in production. There’s some big-picture stuff here.
I have been quite at loose ends lately. It was a slog to go back to my day job after the thrill of being on location.
Right now the short is a massive file management project, uploading, downloading, gluing pieces together, taking them apart again. Sadly, I can't teleport to Chicago for an hour to look over Director Rocco's shoulder while he sorts footage -- and even if I could, that's all I could do. Look.
So I've been pacing and trying to do my day job.
But yesterday, I learned both my scripts -- my solo Whitehorse Exit script and The Same River Twice, written with Producer Amy -- are shortlisted for new screenwriting awards. That makes seven total, three for my solo project and four for the feature. Amazing.
It's cool to know that the minute we screen The Whitehorse Exit, it will have awards. But I'm looking forward to recognition for the project as a whole. I wrote a thing, but it takes a lot of people to bring it to life and they deserve recognition too. Why yes, I am practicing my acceptance speeches, who's asking? I really do want to thank the cast and crew and my dogsitter and and and...
We have a few more awards submissions hanging out there, but my eyes are on late summer, early fall, when we submit the finished short to Sundance, no, for real. At no point in this process has anyone been less than completely committed so see you in Park City?
An editor/writer I adore, Sari Botton, interviewed me about screenwriting for Memoir Land. It's on video, you can watch me have zero chill about everything that's happened.
This part's hard, it's mostly waiting. You know this but I'll say it again -- try and stop me from sharing when there's any news. I can't shut up about any of it but for now, just hang out. Get snacks. Stretch. It's going to be a minute.
The funding page is here. We could use another 10k for finish expenses, but I share this with zero expectations. It's here to make it easy if you can throw money at us. I'm genuinely psyched that you're even following along. Share at will with folks who you think might enjoy the journey, it’s a wild ride.
Thanks for having faith. Turn it up.
Fantastic, Pam. So cool to witness. I hope you already have your Sundance outfit picked out: you want those boots too SHINE!
